ABOUT

ABOUT

Welcome to our podcast, where lighting controls specialists Ron Kuszmar and Webster Marsh discuss the intricacies and unique challenges of lighting controls for commercial and integrated architectural projects.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Webster and Ron come from the same background in theater but they have had radically different careers in the architectural lighting industry. Webster represents the pre-bid world of designs, specifications, and coordination; Ron represents the post-bid world of construction, integration, programming, and end-user satisfaction. Together, these two have an ideal vantage point to dissect the topic of lighting controls.

A Professional Lighting Designer and Integrator for nearly 20 years, Ron Kuszmar oversees the Architectural and Theatrical Lighting Design & Installation departments, as well as the Lighting Control Systems and Equipment Sales teams for Port. At age 16, Ron’s lifelong love of the arts drew him to work in community theater, where he discovered the magic of lighting. Though Ron works nationwide with Port, notable recent local projects include underpass installations for Lynn Beyond Walls, Boston’s One Financial Center façade, continuous special presentation lighting for the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, and an ongoing array of projects for TD Garden, encompassing game lighting and controls, special arena effects, building-wide controls, a comprehensive color-changing aisle lighting upgrade installation, and exterior color-changing lighting. An ETCP- Certified Entertainment Electrician and Theater Rigger, ETC-Certified Field Technician, and Hoist Installer (certified by multiple manufacturers), Ron lives north of Boston with his wife and young daughters.

WHY WE DO IT

Lighting controls can be difficult to talk about and understand as many people are terrified of, frustrated with, or confused by them. The impetus behind this podcast was to get people talking about lighting controls more so that the sentiments surrounding lighting controls can be expressed and, hopefully, addressed. Open dialogues, better documentation, and standards are the key to being sure that each designer, engineer, contractor, and end-user has a positive experience with their lighting controls
